In the intricate web of self-perception, terms like self-worth, self-esteem, and self-confidence often become tangled. 1. Self-Esteem:

Self-Confidence (The Cream): The cream on top is self-confidence. It signifies your belief in your ability to excel in certain areas of life. It’s the confidence you have in your skills and talents.

The Importance of Recognising Differences:

Understanding these distinctions matters because it can impact your well-being. People often strive for high self-esteem and self-confidence, achieving external success and garnering praise from others. However, this pursuit can lead to burnout and anxiety if it’s not rooted in a strong foundation of self-worth.

Two Common Approaches to Addressing Low Self-Worth (The Missing Sponge on the Cake):

  1. Piling on Jam: When someone lacks self-worth, it’s akin to missing the sponge in a cake. In an attempt to compensate for this absence, individuals often resort to piling on the jam. This happens because it is a natural human instinct to seek feelings of being good enough and worthy. When these feelings are lacking internally, the craving for them leads to a pursuit of external validation and success. However, this approach is unsustainable, as no one can excel at everything, and not everyone will like you. It can result in exhaustion, unfulfillment, and lead to stress, anxiety, and worry, ultimately contributing to unhealthy self-esteem.

  2. Doing Nothing: On the flip side, some individuals may resign themselves to low self-worth, resulting in a loss of motivation and withdrawal from life’s pleasures. This can significantly impact mental health and overall happiness. 

The Power of Self-Worth:

Ultimately, self-worth serves as the bedrock of a fulfilling life. When you recognise your inner value, external achievements become icing on the cake, not the entire dessert. With self-worth intact, you’ll always feel enough, even when external circumstances shift. (As long as you have sponge, you always have a cake…right?)

10 Ways You Can Start Building Your Self-Worth and Healthy Self-Esteem:
